Chelsea legend John Terry has raised a red flag regarding Arsenal’s current position in the Premier League title race. Expressing his concerns in an interview with talkSPORT, Terry identified Arsenal’s left-back, Oleksandr Zinchenko, as a potential obstacle to their title ambitions. Despite acknowledging Zinchenko’s prior success with Manchester City, Terry pinpointed specific issues arising from a challenging performance against Liverpool.
Terry highlighted the pivotal role of communication between a left-back and center-half in a team, noting a deficiency in this aspect between Zinchenko and Arsenal’s center-halves. He attributed Zinchenko’s struggles in one-on-one situations to a lack of pace, emphasizing a particular instance where he failed to defend effectively against Mohamed Salah.
Additionally, Terry questioned Zinchenko’s suitability as a left-back, citing his history as a midfielder. Despite occasional midfield roles for Ukraine, Terry argued that Zinchenko needs to prioritize defensive duties to secure his spot in the Arsenal starting lineup.
Expressing concern about the potential repercussions for Arsenal’s title aspirations, Terry suggested that Zinchenko’s defensive shortcomings could be a deciding factor in Arsenal falling short of winning the league.
