O’Neil, in an interview with the Daily Mail, expressed his disappointment with the perceived slow pace of the match’s closing moments. He suggested that the referee could have managed time more efficiently for Wolves, emphasizing instances where he believed the ball was out of play and additional time should have been allotted.
Surprisingly, O’Neil noted that he did not expect time-wasting from Arsenal but acknowledged that any team, including his own, might adopt similar tactics in such situations. He clarified that his comments were not a criticism of Arsenal but rather an observation on the dynamics of time management during critical match moments.
While O’Neil’s accusations may not diminish the credit due to Arsenal’s players for their impressive performance, he suggested that in future games, Arsenal should aim to score goals earlier to secure a safer lead and avoid situations where time-wasting tactics become a focal point of discussion.
