In the upcoming January 2024 transfer window, Arsenal is reportedly eyeing a move for RB Leipzig’s 20-year-old striker, Benjamin Sesko, as indicated by information from Football Transfers. Despite being second choice to Lois Openda, Sesko has impressed with six goals in 15 appearances, attracting interest from various European clubs.
Sesko’s journey from RB Leipzig’s sister club in Austria, Salzburg, involved attention from Premier League giants like Manchester United and Chelsea. Arsenal has now entered the race, identifying the 6ft 4in striker as a primary target. Internal discussions within Arsenal’s management focus on strengthening their title aspirations with Sesko, providing an additional center-forward option.
While Arteta prefers Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney in the striking role, financial considerations may lead Arsenal towards Sesko, whose contract with Leipzig runs until 2028. Arteta has closely monitored Sesko’s development and admires his blend of physical prowess, technical finesse, and clinical finishing.
However, any potential move depends on RB Leipzig’s willingness to part ways with Sesko. Reports suggest Leipzig may consider a transfer if they secure a profit on the £20.7 million initially paid for Sesko. Speculations indicate Leipzig could be seeking around £43 million (€50 million) for the striker’s departure.
Arsenal’s pursuit of a reliable goalscorer stems from inconsistent performances by Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah. Jesus has scored only once in the league this season, and Nketiah’s goal tally stands at five. Considering alternative options like Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen, Arteta faces challenges, including Toney’s ban return and Osimhen’s AFCON commitments, making Sesko a potentially more cost-effective solution.
As the January transfer window approaches, attention is on whether Arsenal can secure Sesko’s services, adding a promising dimension to their attacking options.
