Amadou Onana, a coveted player pursued by both Chelsea and Arsenal, found himself excluded from Everton’s squad in their match against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Tuesday evening. Despite playing the full 90 minutes in the previous FA Cup encounter against Luton Town, Onana was noticeably absent from both the starting XI and the bench for this Premier League fixture. Contrary to the ongoing transfer speculations surrounding him, it appears that his omission is attributed to a thigh injury rather than an imminent move.
Everton’s manager, Sean Dyche, introduced three changes to the lineup for the Fulham clash, with Ashley Young, Beto, and Arnaut Danjuma earning starting positions. Interestingly, Danjuma, part of this trio, is also rumored to be contemplating a departure from Goodison Park before the closure of the transfer window.
This absence marks Onana’s first time missing action since a three-match sidelining in late November due to a calf issue. Throughout the current season, the 22-year-old midfielder has featured in 17 games, finding the net once.
The midfielder’s transfer saga has intensified in January, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Newcastle United expressing interest. Reports suggest that Everton could demand a considerable fee ranging between Ā£70 million and Ā£90 million to sanction a mid-season transfer, considering they secured Onana’s services for Ā£33.5 million in August 2022.
