Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal is shifting its focus to the upcoming summer transfer window after experiencing a notably subdued January transfer period. With an eye on bolstering their offensive capabilities, the Gunners have set their sights on Brentford’s Ivan Toney, as Arteta aims to rectify his team’s scoring deficiencies.
In addition to Toney, Arsenal has identified Wolves’ winger Pedro Neto as another potential addition to their squad. The talented Portuguese player has impressed this season with two goals and eight assists in the Premier League, catching the attention of several top clubs, including Manchester City, managed by Pep Guardiola, who is keen on enhancing his team’s width and pace.
During the recent winter window, Arteta adopted a cautious approach, opting out of the typically inflated mid-season market despite Arsenal’s financial resources. However, it’s anticipated that the Gunners will undertake significant squad restructuring in the upcoming summer window. Reports suggest that Arteta is growing restless with Thomas Partey’s performances and is exploring alternatives to strengthen the midfield.
Specifically, Arteta aims to provide cover and competition for Bukayo Saka on the right-wing position, with Neto emerging as the prime target for this role. Although Arsenal had been previously linked with the player, they are now reportedly gearing up to formally approach the 23-year-old during the summer transfer period.
Nevertheless, Wolves, who have Neto under contract until 2027, are expected to vigorously resist any attempts to lure away their prized asset and are likely to demand a substantial fee, rumored to be in excess of £60 million, for his services.
