Reports have surfaced indicating that Arsenal may disrupt Manchester United’s extensive chase for a striker they’ve been monitoring for two years.
The saga dates back to July 2022, when discussions between United and Benjamin Sesko’s representative began, exploring a potential move to Old Trafford.
However, the 20-year-old forward opted for Red Bull Leipzig over United, where his performances have since dazzled, drawing comparisons to Erling Haaland, particularly for his role at Red Bull Salzburg post-Haaland’s departure for Borussia Dortmund.
Sesko’s impressive record this season, boasting 13 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions, including six goals in his last 11 Bundesliga matches, has understandably attracted attention.
Arsenal is reportedly eyeing Sesko for the upcoming summer transfer window, aligning with his admiration for Haaland, whom Sesko has openly admitted to studying on YouTube to hone his own skills.
Despite his admiration for Haaland, Sesko acknowledges the formidable challenge of surpassing his level, understanding that only a few athletes ascend to such greatness in the sport.
Multiple sources, including the Evening Standard, corroborate Arsenal’s pursuit of Sesko, noting a €50 million (£42.7m) release clause in his current contract with Leipzig.
With other contenders like Chelsea also monitoring the situation, United faces the urgency to act swiftly if they aim to secure Sesko’s services after their protracted pursuit.
Presently, United’s striking department is led by Rasmus Hojlund and Anthony Martial, with the latter potentially departing when his contract expires at the season’s end.
