Erik ten Hag, Manchester United’s manager, has identified four key players who he believes can lead the team’s revival amid a tough season. In a recent press conference, ten Hag highlighted the critical roles of Andre Onana, Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, and Bruno Fernandes in rallying the team. “We have such characters who can do it [turn things around],” he stated. “These players like Andre, Harry, Scott, and Bruno demonstrate leadership in critical moments.”
Ten Hag acknowledged the impact of injuries to key players like Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez, emphasizing the need for others to step up. “I think we can step up, but the injuries don’t help us,” he noted. “It disrupts our defensive organization when we have to frequently change the back four. Consistency in such moments becomes crucial.”
Reflecting on their recent narrow 1-0 victory against Fulham, secured by a late goal from Bruno Fernandes, ten Hag expressed hope that the team could build on this result for their upcoming fixture against Luton Town.
However, he warned against complacency, highlighting Luton’s resilient performance against Liverpool. “They’ve shown good performances and results lately, so we must remain fully aware,” he advised. “To win against them, we need to maintain absolute focus throughout the game.”
Looking ahead, ten Hag emphasized the importance of routines and collective effort in overcoming difficult periods. “It’s during such times that the team’s routines become invaluable,” he remarked. “We need everyone to contribute and execute their roles effectively.”
