“It’s true Chelsea wants him” – Journalist claims Chelsea wants to buy €43 million world-class Bundesliga player

Chelsea is actively pursuing Bayern Munich’s star defender Dayot Upamecano during this summer’s transfer window, as confirmed by journalist Christian Falk.

This interest isn’t new; Chelsea has had their eye on Upamecano since he was 17, although he has consistently rejected moves to the Premier League. Now at 25, Upamecano, who has been with Bayern for three years and has a contract until 2026, might be considering a new challenge in his career.

In a podcast discussion, Falk highlighted Chelsea’s ongoing interest in Upamecano, despite some inconsistent performances for Bayern. He noted, “Yes, it’s true: CHELSEA would like Dayot Upamecano.

It’s not really clear yet whether he’ll have a chance next year. Vincent Kompany is looking at everyone, but would Bayern let him go? That would probably cost a lot of money. At the time, Bayern paid €42.5m to RB Leipzig.”

The report further states that Bayern’s new manager, Vincent Kompany, values Upamecano highly and is determined to keep him at the club.

Kompany, a former defender himself, is expected to persuade Upamecano of the advantages of remaining in Munich.

Meanwhile, Bayern seems more inclined to part ways with other defenders such as Kim Min-Jae or Matthijs De Ligt rather than Upamecano.

Upamecano’s potential move to Chelsea would be a significant addition to the club, given his reputation as a world-class defender.

However, the transfer would require a substantial financial commitment from Chelsea, considering the initial €42.5m Bayern paid to acquire him from RB Leipzig.

The unfolding situation depends heavily on Kompany’s ability to convince Upamecano of his critical role in Bayern’s future plans and the club’s willingness to negotiate.
