Arsenal forward Cloe Lacasse is expected to depart the club this summer after just one season, as reported by Tim Stillman of Arseblog. The 31-year-old Canadian international joined Arsenal from Benfica last summer, following a successful four-year spell in Portugal. Prior to her time in Portugal, Lacasse had played for Icelandic club ÍBV and the Toronto Lady Lynx in her native Canada.

 

During her brief time with Arsenal, Lacasse made 23 appearances across all competitions in the 2023/24 season, netting five goals.

One of her most memorable contributions came early in her Women’s Super League (WSL) career when she scored a dramatic late equalizer against Manchester United in her second league appearance. However, she found it challenging to maintain that early momentum throughout the season.

This summer, Lacasse represented Canada at the Paris Olympics, where she made three appearances as her team advanced to the quarter-finals. Despite her performances on both the club and international stages, it appears her tenure at Arsenal may be cut short.

Reports indicate that Lacasse is likely to move to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the United States, with the transfer expected to occur during the current window.

Lacasse’s departure would come during a busy summer for Arsenal, as they have been actively working to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season.

The Gunners have already made two significant attacking signings. Mariona Caldentey, who joined on a free transfer from Barcelona, was among the first additions. More recently, Arsenal secured the services of Rosa Kafaji from Swedish club BK Häcken, further bolstering their attacking options.

Last season, Arsenal finished third in the Women’s Super League (WSL), just five points shy of champions Chelsea and runners-up Manchester City. With 16 wins from 22 games, Arsenal demonstrated their competitiveness but ultimately fell short of the top spot.

As the new season approaches, set to begin on Sunday, September 22, with a crucial match against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal will be eager to improve on their third-place finish and mount a serious challenge for the WSL title.

However, the potential exit of Lacasse adds an extra layer of complexity to Arsenal’s preparations as they seek to finalize their squad and ensure they are ready to compete at the highest level in the upcoming season.
