Arsenal is reportedly leading the race to acquire Benjamin Sesko, the promising striker from RB Leipzig, surpassing competition from Manchester United and Bayern Munich, as per TEAMtalk. The 21-year-old Slovenian international, who made an impressive debut with Leipzig, was previously on Arsenal’s radar last summer but chose to renew his contract with the Bundesliga team.
Despite Sesko’s contract extension, rumors surrounding his future persist. Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, remains eager to bolster his attacking options, especially with the Gunners aiming to keep up with top-tier rivals such as Manchester City and Liverpool. Sources suggest that Arsenal holds an advantage in the pursuit of Sesko, thanks to favorable discussions with his representatives that highlight the assurance of significant playing time and a central role in their future plans.
Sesko’s market value has surged following his strong start to the current season, where he has netted 6 goals and registered 3 assists in just 9 matches. Bayern Munich has expressed interest in the forward, but with Harry Kane as their primary striker, Sesko might hesitate to join a club where he could end up as a secondary option. Similarly, Manchester United, having already brought in forwards like Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, may not guarantee him a starting position.
On the other hand, Arsenal seems to offer a clearer route to a first-team spot for Sesko. With Kai Havertz displaying excellent form this season, he could potentially shift to a deeper midfield role, providing space for Sesko to take charge in the attacking line. Should Sesko make the move to Arsenal next summer, it might prompt the exit of Gabriel Jesus, who would face increased competition for his role.
When Sesko renewed his contract with Leipzig, the club removed a £55 million release clause. However, journalist Marco Guidi of Gazzetta dello Sport indicates that his transfer fee could be around £66 million or more by next summer, contingent on his ongoing performance this season.
Arsenal’s interest in securing a young, dynamic striker like Sesko reflects their ambition to strengthen their squad for domestic and European challenges. Arteta’s strategy appears focused on assembling a versatile forward line capable of adapting to various tactical demands.
