Sporting Club forward Viktor Gyƶkeres has finally addressed Arsenal defender Gabrielās decision to mimic his signature celebration during a recent match.
Gyƶkeres, 26, has been a standout player in Europe this season, netting an impressive 24 goals in just 20 games. However, the Swedish striker couldnāt add to his tally on Tuesday as Arsenal secured a commanding 5-1 win in Lisbon.
Gabriel scored Arsenalās third goal during first-half stoppage time, capitalizing on Declan Riceās precise corner with a perfectly executed run. After finding the back of the net, the Brazilian defender replicated Gyƶkeresā trademark celebration, interlocking his hands in front of his face. Gyƶkeres later responded humorously, saying Gabriel was welcome to āstealā the celebration if he couldnāt invent one himself.
Reports suggest the celebration was a playful nod to Pedro Goncalves, who mimicked Granit Xhakaās celebration when Sporting eliminated Arsenal in the Europa League back in March 2023.
Despite Sportingās defeat, Gyƶkeres remains a sought-after talent, with clubs like Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona reportedly keeping a close eye on him during the game.
Arsenalās victory propelled them to seventh in the Champions League group stage standings. However, concerns arose over Gabrielās fitness after manager Mikel Arteta revealed the defender had experienced some discomfort. While the exact issue remains unclear, Arteta expressed satisfaction with his teamās performance, commending their efficiency and progress on the European stage.
