FC Barcelona has been thriving under the guidance of former Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick. Since taking charge in the summer, Flick has revitalized the team and introduced an exciting brand of football. His efforts were evident last month when Barcelona secured an impressive victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stage.
During his successful 18-month tenure at Bayern Munich from 2019 to 2021, Flick established a strong rapport with several players. Now, as Barcelona’s manager, he is reportedly keen on reuniting with some of those stars.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Flick has recommended that Barcelona target Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies. Both players are nearing the end of their contracts, making them potential free transfer options for the Catalan club.
However, their high salary demands could pose a challenge for Barcelona, which has been working to reduce its wage bill over the past two summers to comply with La Liga’s financial fair play regulations.
Bayern Munich, under Vincent Kompany’s leadership, has seen standout performances from Kimmich and Davies this season.
The club is reluctant to let either player leave, making it a significant achievement if Barcelona manages to sign them. While Kimmich seems likely to remain in Munich, Davies presents a more realistic target for Barcelona.
Alphonso Davies appears open to leaving Bayern, as contract negotiations between the player and the club have stalled. Despite this, Bayern has not given up hope of securing a renewal. Barcelona will face stiff competition from Real Madrid and Manchester United for Davies’ signature.
Though rumors of a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid have been dismissed, Davies’ past success under Flick could influence his decision in favor of a move to Barcelona.
On the other hand, Joshua Kimmich seems poised to extend his stay at Bayern. The midfielder has engaged in positive discussions with the club about a new deal and has expressed a willingness to remain in Munich.
With an influential role in Kompany’s setup, it appears likely that Kimmich will sign a long-term extension unless unforeseen circumstances arise.
Additionally, Leroy Sané, another key Bayern player, is also in the final year of his contract. Until Bayern secures renewals or confirms departures, speculation about the futures of these players will persist.
