Arsenal fans received disappointing news as star winger Bukayo Saka is expected to miss over two months after undergoing surgery for a hamstring injury. Saka, who has been pivotal to Arsenal’s title ambitions this season, sustained the injury during their 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace last weekend.
Despite his absence, Arsenal managed a narrow 1-0 win against Ipswich on Friday, though concerns persist about the team’s ability to maintain consistent performances without him.
Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed the successful surgery and shared an estimated recovery timeline following the Ipswich game. “He had the procedure, and everything went well,” Arteta stated. “Unfortunately, he’ll be out for several weeks.
I estimate it will be more than two months, but the exact duration depends on how well his recovery progresses.” If all goes well, Saka could return in time for Arsenal’s key away match against Manchester United on March 8.
In a brighter development, Arsenal fans received encouraging news about Chelsea loanee Raheem Sterling. The winger, who missed the last two matches due to a knee injury, is recovering faster than initially expected.
Arteta provided an update: “We’re closely monitoring his progress this week. Initially, we anticipated a longer recovery period, but the recent signs are positive. Hopefully, he’ll be back soon because we need him.”
Arsenal’s next challenge is a New Year’s Day clash against Brentford, where they aim to extend their winning streak in the Premier League and keep pressure on league leaders Liverpool. Reflecting on the team’s performance without Saka, Arteta admitted that adjustments are necessary. “We performed well, but it’s a different dynamic. The second half showed some good moments. It’s a new setup without him, and the players will need time to adapt fully.”
Despite overtaking Chelsea to secure second place with their win over Ipswich, Arsenal remains six points behind Liverpool, who also have a game in hand.
However, Arteta remains optimistic about the team’s position, particularly given the injury challenges they have faced. “Considering the circumstances, including a reduced squad and numerous injuries, being where we are is encouraging. But it’s not our final goal. We aim to reach the top,” he affirmed.
