Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta faces a critical decision in the January transfer window following Bukayo Saka’s recent injury. The winger, who has been instrumental in Arsenal’s campaign with five goals and ten assists in the Premier League, sustained a hamstring injury during the Gunners’ 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
His absence for several weeks poses a significant challenge, as Arsenal trail league leaders Liverpool by six points, with one more match played.
Saka’s injury has left fans concerned about Arsenal’s title ambitions, as his creative influence and role as a key set-piece taker have been vital. In light of these challenges, reports suggest Arsenal may explore a loan move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani in January.
The 26-year-old Frenchman has had limited opportunities at PSG, starting just twice this season, yet has still managed two goals and an assist. His per-90-minute contribution of 0.75 goals and assists surpasses those of Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus, making him a compelling option.
Muani’s past performance with Eintracht Frankfurt, where he scored 15 league goals and provided 11 assists during the 2022-23 season, highlights his potential. A loan agreement without a purchase obligation would allow Arsenal to bolster their attack with minimal risk, offering a solution to their current predicament.
The potential signing could help Arsenal address their dependence on Saka to break down defenses. Muani’s ability to complement players like Havertz could offer the Gunners greater attacking versatility.
However, his lack of regular playing time at PSG raises questions about his consistency, and additional injuries within the squad, such as Raheem Sterling’s knee issue, could add further pressure.
This period could also serve as an opportunity for Arteta to demonstrate his tactical adaptability and manage the squad’s resources effectively.
With only six points to spare in the title race if 90 points remains the benchmark for Premier League success, Arsenal’s response to Saka’s absence will likely define their season.
