Reports suggest that the relationship between Frenkie de Jong’s representatives and Barcelona has reached a breaking point due to unresolved contract negotiations.
The conflict arises from De Jong’s reluctance to accept a contract renewal that would restructure his salary over several years.
De Jong, currently the highest-paid player at the club, has become a financial burden for Barcelona. Despite the club’s desire to adjust his salary, no other European team has shown interest in matching his current wages.
As a result, Barcelona has withdrawn its renewal offer, leaving De Jong without a contract proposal to consider.
This impasse has led to mounting frustration among Barcelona supporters, who are increasingly questioning De Jong’s dedication and on-field performances. Many fans now view a mutual separation as the most reasonable outcome after nearly seven years of his tenure at the club.
Although the possibility of renewing De Jong’s contract with a revised payment structure still exists, his representatives appear uninterested in such an arrangement.
Instead, they seem intent on securing the payment of De Jong’s outstanding dues, possibly positioning him to leave the club as a free agent.
At present, no formal transfer offers have been made for the Dutch midfielder, leaving his future uncertain. With both parties firmly entrenched in their positions, the contract dispute shows no signs of resolution, keeping De Jong’s career at Barcelona in a state of uncertainty.
