Arsenal is reportedly looking to strengthen its squad by signing a highly-rated La Liga star valued at £83 million. The Gunners’ ambitions in the transfer market go beyond just Nico Williams, as they are also interested in securing another top talent from Spain’s top division.
Recent reports indicate that Arsenal is particularly keen on acquiring a standout player from Barcelona this summer. Manager Mikel Arteta sees him as an ideal addition to his squad, believing he would significantly improve the team’s midfield.
The club is targeting multiple La Liga players, with new Sporting Director Andrea Berta leveraging his strong ties within Spanish football to facilitate potential deals.
One of Arsenal’s emerging targets is Omar El Hilali, whose release clause of £12.5 million makes him an attractive option. Additionally, the club is exploring reinforcements for attacking positions. Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad has long been linked with a move to the Emirates, and discussions have begun regarding a potential transfer for Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.
Arsenal has also kept an eye on Barcelona players in recent months, particularly due to the Catalan club’s ongoing financial struggles.
Raphinha was previously identified as a target in December, but the club’s focus has now shifted towards strengthening its midfield.
According to Spanish reports, Arsenal is particularly interested in Marc Casado, a rising star who has played a crucial role in Barcelona’s title pursuit this season.
Arteta values Casado’s strong tackling ability and believes he would fit perfectly into his tactical setup. However, securing his signature could prove difficult, as Barcelona is unwilling to part with the player.
Casado’s contract includes an £83 million release clause, which presents a major obstacle for Arsenal. The 21-year-old has had a breakthrough season at Camp Nou, making 35 appearances across all competitions and establishing himself as a key figure in Barcelona’s midfield.
His defensive contributions and attacking output, particularly in terms of assists, have earned him recognition as one of the top performers in his position.
Meanwhile, Arsenal is also facing concerns over Thomas Partey’s future. The Ghanaian midfielder is reportedly in talks with both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona about a possible free transfer this summer.
With Partey’s future uncertain, Casado has been identified as a potential replacement, earning praise from Barcelona manager Hansi Flick for his impressive performances.
Despite Arsenal’s strong interest, a deal for Casado this summer appears unlikely due to Barcelona’s reluctance to sell their La Masia graduate.
