Despite the celebratory atmosphere following this emphatic triumph, a controversy emerged within the Barcelona squad regarding coach Hansi Flick’s handling of young midfielder Pablo Torre. According to reports from the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Flick’s decision to leave Torre on the bench for the entire match sparked outrage from Barcelona’s midfield duo, Pedri and Gavi.
Although Barcelona had secured a comfortable lead early in the game, Flick made several substitutions in the second half to rest key players, including Pedri, Raphinha, Olmo, and Araujo.
However, despite the opportunity to rotate the squad, the coach chose to overlook Torre entirely, denying him any minutes on the pitch. This decision did not sit well with Pedri and Gavi, who consider Torre to be one of the team’s most promising young talents.
Pedri and Gavi reportedly felt that, given the match was already won, Torre at least deserved a brief appearance as a substitute. They believed it was an ideal situation to give him some playing time and experience at the highest level.
However, Flick remained firm in his stance, allegedly responding to any inquiries about Torre’s absence with a blunt, “He will not play, we are done with this matter.” This rigid decision has reportedly left the young Barcelona players frustrated, as they see it as an unfair treatment of their talented teammate.
Torre, a rising star in Barcelona’s midfield, has shown great technical ability and potential, making his continued exclusion a point of contention among his teammates. While Flick’s decision may have been based on tactical or managerial considerations, it has nevertheless created tensions within the squad.
As the season progresses, it remains to be seen whether the German coach will reconsider his stance on Torre or if the frustration among Barcelona’s young stars will continue to grow.
