The new manager of Manchester United had a fallout with their star player, Marcus Rashford, leading to his loan move to Aston Villa. Meanwhile, the team’s current strikers, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, have struggled to impress. Despite their attacking woes, INEOS, the club’s owners, opted to sign only a defender during the winter transfer window rather than strengthening their attack.
Reports suggest that Manchester United has reached an agreement to sign Viktor Gyökeres in the upcoming summer transfer window. According to Fichajes, the club refrained from making high-profile signings in January because Gyökeres’s transfer was already in progress for the next season.
It is believed that United have finalized a deal with Sporting CP to bring the Swedish striker to Old Trafford. The 26-year-old has been one of Europe’s most lethal forwards, boasting 34 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions this season. His consistency and goal-scoring prowess have made him a highly sought-after player.
Gyökeres joined Sporting from Coventry City in 2023 and quickly cemented his place in the starting lineup. His explosive pace and clinical finishing have played a crucial role in his team’s success. Since making the switch to Portugal, he has developed into one of the most complete strikers in the game.
Despite Sporting’s manager, Rúben Amorim, leaving the club, Gyökeres has continued his impressive form, scoring goals regularly and maintaining his reputation as a top striker. His ability to thrive under different managers highlights his adaptability and quality.
The Swedish forward is currently under contract with Sporting CP until the summer of 2028. His contract includes a release clause of €100 million, but reports suggest the Portuguese club is open to negotiating a lower transfer fee of around €70 million to facilitate his departure.
Manchester United view Gyökeres as a key figure in their project under Amorim. Given their previous successful partnership in Portugal, the club is optimistic that he can replicate his performances in the Premier League and become a vital asset for the team.
That said, doubts remain over United’s financial ability to finalize the deal. Their transfer business is under scrutiny due to Financial Fair Play regulations, making it necessary to approach reports of an agreed summer transfer with caution.
