Barcelona’s interest in signing Jonathan Tah, the 29-year-old center-back from Bayer Leverkusen, has hit a roadblock due to financial limitations. The German international is set to become a free agent this summer, making him an attractive prospect for the Catalan giants. Recently, Barcelona president Joan Laporta, sporting director Deco, and prominent agent Pini Zahavi—who represents both Jonathan Tah and managerial candidate Hansi Flick—held a meeting in Barcelona. While the main agenda was centered on Flick’s potential appointment as head coach, the topic of Tah’s possible transfer was also discussed during the meeting.
Initially, discussions surrounding Tah’s move were progressing positively, and an agreement seemed within reach. However, the club has now placed the transfer on hold because of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. Barcelona is operating under strict salary caps, which severely limit their ability to register new players.

To avoid a similar experience, Tah has reportedly given Barcelona a deadline until May to finalize their decision.
If Barcelona fails to act within this window, Tah may start exploring other opportunities. Several Premier League clubs have shown interest in the defender, and he is expected to consider their offers if the Blaugrana cannot resolve their financial issues soon.
