Barcelona may still be in the hunt for a treble this season, but new head coach Hansi Flick is already laying the groundwork for next season—and he has identified five players who don’t fit into his future plans.
According to reports from Fichajes, Flick has handed a list to the club’s board, requesting the departure of five specific players during the upcoming transfer window.
These players consist of individuals who have struggled for game time, battled inconsistent form, or simply no longer align with Flick’s tactical vision. First on the list is Iñaki Peña.
Despite having a stretch of appearances in the first team, Peña has dropped down the pecking order, especially with Ter Stegen set to return and Wojciech Szczęsny currently preferred. As a result, the 25-year-old goalkeeper may be moved on, especially since he still retains market value within La Liga.
Next is Andreas Christensen, who has faced a challenging season due to injuries and a dip in form. With the emergence of more reliable defensive options like Pau Cubarsí, Ronald Araújo, and Iñigo Martínez, the Danish international could be sold to streamline the defense.
Ansu Fati also appears set for an exit. Once seen as a future star, Fati has struggled to regain form after his loan spell and has barely featured under Flick. His departure—either through another loan or a permanent transfer—is now a strong possibility.
Meanwhile, young striker Pau Víctor, though still viewed as part of the club’s long-term plans, may be sent out on loan. The idea is to provide him with consistent playing time elsewhere to aid his development, away from the pressures of the Camp Nou.
Finally, Eric García is also among those who could be shown the door. Although he has received more playing opportunities recently, Flick reportedly doesn’t consider him essential to his tactical setup. García’s future at Barcelona might depend on other changes in the defensive unit, but he is currently regarded as expendable.
Even as Barcelona aims for silverware, Flick is already taking steps to reshape the team for the future. His clear direction suggests that big decisions lie ahead as the club seeks to become more efficient and competitive.
