Barcelona’s newly appointed German coach, Hansi Flick, is reportedly dissatisfied with the current state of the squad and is urging the club’s management to strengthen the team during the upcoming transfer window.
A particular area of concern for Flick is the attacking line, which he believes lacks the necessary depth and versatility, especially for high-stakes matches where player rotation is essential.
As part of his strategy to build a more competitive side, Flick is open to offloading players who don’t align with his tactical vision. Among those likely to be shown the door are Ansu Fati, Pablo Torre, and Pau Víctor.
According to El Nacional, Flick is not interested in average or backup players—his goal is to attract world-class talent that can make an immediate impact. He has presented the club with a list of elite footballers who could elevate the squad’s performance. Notably, names such as Liverpool’s Luis Díaz and Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala have surfaced.
However, Flick is said to be particularly focused on signing Bayer Leverkusen’s star midfielder, Florian Wirtz. The young German international is someone Flick knows well, having handed him his first cap during his tenure as national team coach.
Wirtz’s journey hasn’t been easy. Nearly three years ago, a serious knee injury cast doubt on his future, but he made an impressive comeback, developing into one of the most talented midfielders in Europe.
With strong guidance from current Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, Wirtz has not only regained his form but solidified his status as one of the sport’s top prospects. Flick believes Wirtz’s creativity and vision in the midfield are exactly what Barcelona needs to reclaim its place among Europe’s elite.
Despite having creative players like Dani Olmo and Fermín López in the squad, Flick remains firm in his desire to sign Wirtz and has urged club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco to do whatever it takes to secure the 20-year-old’s services. However, Barcelona faces a tough challenge, both financially and competitively.
The asking price for Wirtz is expected to surpass €130 million—a figure that poses a serious obstacle given the club’s ongoing financial struggles. Additionally, interest from wealthy clubs like Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain makes the pursuit even more complicated.
