In recent weeks, Marc-André ter Stegen has come under intense scrutiny due to a series of controversial situations surrounding him at Barcelona. The German goalkeeper suffered an injury during the fourth round of La Liga in a match against Villarreal, which led the club to urgently seek a replacement.
They turned to experienced Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, who had previously retired from professional football but agreed to return for one final challenge by signing with the club.

Once back, Ter Stegen began to exert noticeable influence within the club, both through his public remarks and during internal meetings with the coaching staff and players. Despite Flick maintaining that Szczęsny would keep his position until season’s end, he eventually hinted at allowing Ter Stegen some game time, which materialized when he featured in a match against Valladolid.
As the season progressed, Szczęsny’s earlier decent run of form started to decline, leading to renewed concerns within the squad. His dip in performance, coupled with Ter Stegen’s return to fitness, stirred debates in the Barcelona dressing room regarding the goalkeeping situation, especially ahead of crucial fixtures like the Champions League clash against Inter Milan.
Reports suggest that several team captains and veteran players believe Ter Stegen should have reclaimed the starting role for such an important encounter. In their view, Szczęsny no longer possesses the reliability required for Barcelona’s number one spot, and they have urged Flick to reconsider his goalkeeping choice for the final stretch of the season.
