As Barcelona prepares for its first major signing ahead of the new season, tensions have begun to surface inside Camp Nou — not because of external factors or rival clubs, but due to unexpected internal disagreements.
Recent reports have indicated that the club is on the verge of securing a deal for Colombian forward Luis Díaz from Liverpool, with a transfer fee reportedly surpassing €70 million. However, this move has been met with strong resistance from within Barcelona’s own dressing room.
According to details shared by El Nacional, two of Barcelona’s standout players, Pedri and Lamine Yamal, have openly voiced their concerns regarding the proposed signing.
They are said to have directly approached new coach Hansi Flick to express their dissatisfaction, arguing that the club should explore other options. The young stars believe there are better-suited and more budget-friendly alternatives available on the market.
One player they have reportedly recommended is Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres. Pedri and Yamal feel Gyökeres would be a far more appropriate signing for Barcelona, highlighting his impressive goal-scoring record, compatibility with the club’s playing philosophy, and his considerably lower price tag compared to Díaz. They view his arrival as both a financially sensible and tactically valuable decision.
Despite the players’ concerns, Luis Díaz remains the preferred target of Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco. Deco values Díaz for his physicality, aggressive playing style, and valuable experience at the highest level. However, the hefty fee associated with the Colombian — which could reportedly climb to €80 million — has sparked debate, particularly given Barcelona’s ongoing financial struggles.
While the club’s management continues to stress the importance of strengthening their winger options, several members of the squad believe that any potential signing should strike a careful balance between quality and affordability.
In contrast, Viktor Gyökeres is considered by many players as a more practical and strategic acquisition. His versatility — being able to feature both as a central striker and on the wings — would offer Flick greater tactical options and flexibility heading into the new campaign.
With the transfer window entering a crucial phase, mounting internal pressure is forcing the club’s decision-makers to carefully weigh the preferences of the coaching staff and board against the views of their influential senior players.
