Barcelona is bracing for a summer filled with unexpected moves and major changes. Despite the club’s ongoing financial challenges and the urgent need to raise funds, several names have already emerged as potential candidates to fulfill the sporting project envisioned by Joan Laporta and Deco. One of the standout figures in this scenario is Ronald Araújo.
Although the Uruguayan defender extended his contract with the club earlier this year, his position at Barcelona has become increasingly uncertain. A dip in form and a reduced role in the team’s future plans have cast doubt over his long-term stay at Camp Nou.
According to reports from the Spanish outlet El Nacional, Barcelona is looking to offload not only Araújo but also several other players who have struggled to establish themselves within the squad.
Names like Pau Víctor, Iñaki Peña, Pablo Torre, and Ansu Fati have been listed as possible departures. Additionally, Andreas Christensen, plagued by injuries and with a contract set to expire in 2026, could also be on his way out. However, perhaps the most surprising name being considered for a transfer is Pablo Páez, better known as Gavi.
Gavi, who rose rapidly through Barcelona’s ranks to become a fixture in the starting eleven, had earned the admiration of both former managers Ronald Koeman and Xavi Hernández.
Regarded as one of the brightest midfield prospects globally, Gavi was a fan favorite and a dependable presence in midfield. However, his career took an unfortunate turn after he suffered a severe knee injury while on international duty with Spain, tearing both his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus.
Though he has been working diligently to recover, Gavi has struggled to regain his previous form. New Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, despite having a positive relationship with the youngster, has not been able to guarantee him a starting position. Players like Dani Olmo, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri González, Fermín López, and Marc Casadó have been preferred in recent lineups, leaving Gavi marginalized.
Earlier in the season, Gavi renewed his contract but made it clear to Laporta and Deco that he would not accept a reduced role in the squad. If assurances about his place in the team are not made, he is reportedly open to exploring other opportunities. Barcelona, meanwhile, appears willing to entertain offers for him, with several top European clubs closely monitoring his situation — adding more uncertainty to his future at Camp Nou.
