Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly on the verge of joining Arsenal this summer, according to fresh reports from Portugal. The Sporting Lisbon striker is expected to depart the club after helping them clinch the Primeira Liga title this season.
With only one fixture left on their schedule, Arsenal has emerged as the leading candidate to sign the talented Swedish forward.
The situation at Sporting CP is set for a major shakeup as their current manager, Rúben Amorim, is also tipped for an exit. This has further fueled speculation about Gyokeres’ future, with the Portuguese media reporting on Monday that a transfer to Arsenal now seems increasingly probable.
Gyokeres has enjoyed a remarkable season with Sporting, recently scoring in a 2-0 victory over Vitoria, which marked his 53rd goal of the campaign and his 96th in just 101 appearances for the club. His prolific form means he stands on the brink of reaching 100 goals for Sporting, with the Taca de Portugal final against Benfica offering him a chance to hit that milestone.
As the cup final approaches, rumors surrounding his move continue to gather pace. The 26-year-old has drawn interest from several Premier League sides, most notably Arsenal and Manchester United, both of whom are eager to strengthen their attacking line-ups ahead of next season.
Initially, Manchester United appeared to have an edge in the race to sign him, largely due to Rúben Amorim’s close relationship with the striker.
