Just hours after securing a domestic treble by winning La Liga, the Spanish Super Cup, and the Copa del Rey, Hansi Flick quickly shifted his attention to plans for the upcoming season.
While the team’s performance this year was commendable on all fronts, their exit in the Champions League semi-finals left a bitter taste, especially given the squad’s lofty ambitions for European glory.
Determined to build on the team’s recent success and extend their dominance beyond Spanish football, Flick has already outlined his strategy for the new campaign. His plans involve reinforcing the team with fresh signings while parting ways with players who failed to establish themselves or fit into his long-term vision at Camp Nou.
According to reports from Spanish outlet El Nacional, Flick has handed club sporting director Deco a list of six players he wishes to offload ahead of the new season. Among those set to depart are Iñaki Peña and Héctor Fort, both of whom have reportedly lost Flick’s trust.
Peña, once seen as a reliable backup for Marc-André ter Stegen, found himself sidelined following the arrival of Wojciech Szczęsny, a decision that strained his relationship with the German coach.
The list also includes young talents Pablo Torre and Pau Víctor. Despite showing promise when called upon, neither was given consistent opportunities due to the fierce competition within the squad. Their limited involvement has made their departures seem inevitable as Barcelona looks to reshape its roster.
Another notable name on the transfer list is Ansu Fati. The 22-year-old forward, who was once regarded as the club’s future star, struggled to make a meaningful impact throughout the season.
Flick made several efforts to reignite Fati’s form, but after a series of underwhelming performances, he has decided to move on. Club president Joan Laporta is also keen to offload Fati’s significant €12 million annual salary to ease the club’s financial burden.
Perhaps the most surprising inclusion is Ronald Araújo. The Uruguayan defender, long considered a cornerstone of Barcelona’s backline, is now viewed as the club’s most valuable potential sale. The Catalan giants hope to fetch around €60 million for him, a sum that would significantly bolster their transfer budget.
Flick has officially authorized both Deco and Laporta to proceed with negotiations for the departures of these players as part of his squad overhaul.
