As German coach Hansi Flick prepares for his second season in charge at Barcelona, the shape of his project for the club is becoming increasingly clear. With the new campaign fast approaching, Flick has started making significant decisions that will help set the tone for the season ahead.
Central to his strategy is the decision to reduce the number of players considered surplus to requirements, aiming to streamline the squad and make room for both financial savings and new signings.
According to reports from the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Barcelona is poised to offload four players in the coming days as part of this restructuring. The names expected to leave include Ansu Fati, Iñaki Peña, Álex Valle, and Clément Lenglet.
All four have been deemed outside Flick’s plans for the future, and the club’s management is working quickly to resolve their futures before the summer transfer window officially opens.
Among the group, Ansu Fati’s situation is the most advanced. Once seen as one of Barcelona’s brightest young prospects, Fati has struggled with form and fitness in recent seasons. Flick has reportedly not been impressed with his performances in training and has communicated that the forward is no longer part of his plans.
French side AS Monaco has emerged as the leading candidate for his signature, with negotiations progressing toward a loan move that includes a purchase option valued at €20 million. The move could offer Fati the stability and playing time he needs to get his career back on track.
Goalkeeper Iñaki Peña is also set to leave. Having served as a backup to Marc-André ter Stegen, Peña’s place in the squad is now under threat as Barcelona closes in on signing Juan García, who is expected to challenge for the starting role.
Peña has drawn interest from several clubs, including Celta Vigo and Galatasaray. The Catalan club is willing to sanction his departure for around €5 million, and a transfer deal is likely to be completed before the start of July.
Álex Valle, a promising left-back who spent the season on loan at Como in Italy, is expected to make a permanent switch. Como’s management is keen to activate a €6 million purchase option after an impressive campaign. Despite his potential, Barcelona sees limited first-team opportunities for him due to Alejandro Balde’s emergence.
Finally, Clément Lenglet, who was on loan at Atlético Madrid, is also nearing an exit. While Atlético is open to retaining him, they are unwilling to pay a transfer fee. The likely outcome is a mutual contract termination, as Barcelona seeks to shed his €16 million annual salary.
