Transfer Updates: Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United Busy in the Market
Arsenal has officially wrapped up a deal for 26-year-old midfielder Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. The Spanish international joins the Gunners for a transfer fee of €65 million, which the North London club will settle through scheduled installments over the next few years.
Although the agreement has been in place since May, Zubimendi’s official unveiling as an Arsenal player is expected shortly, and he will link up with Mikel Arteta’s squad for their pre-season preparations.
Elsewhere in England, Liverpool has finalized the signing of highly-rated German playmaker Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. The 22-year-old joins the Merseyside club in a record-breaking deal worth €150 million, including performance-based add-ons. This makes Wirtz not only the most expensive transfer in Liverpool’s history but also the priciest signing ever in both Bundesliga and Premier League history.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Wirtz has been one of the summer’s major transfer stories. The Reds submitted a third bid last week valued at £100 million guaranteed, with an additional £14 million in possible bonuses. While Bayer Leverkusen initially demanded £126 million for their star midfielder, negotiations have advanced to ironing out the final specifics of the deal, particularly around the add-ons and their conditions.
Wirtz, who played a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s 2024 Bundesliga title win, had long made it clear that his preferred destination was Anfield, despite interest from both Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, Arsenal remains active in the market and is aggressively working to sign Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig. The 22-year-old forward is attracting attention from several top clubs, prompting Arsenal to act quickly.
The player has already agreed personal terms with the Gunners, a key step toward completing the move. However, the major hurdle remains Leipzig’s €80 million release clause. Despite this, optimism is growing at the Emirates that a deal can be concluded before the transfer window closes.
Should the Šeško deal fall through, Arsenal is reportedly prepared to turn their attention to Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres. Over at Manchester United, the Red Devils are working on a move for Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo, having already signed Brazil international Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5 million this summer.
