Arsenal have reportedly confirmed the signing of highly-rated 23-year-old forward Joao Pedro, beating strong competition from Liverpool and Real Madrid to secure his services. The North London side has finalized a five-year contract with the Brazilian attacker, with medical tests already completed and an official announcement imminent.
According to reports from Fichajes, the Gunners had shown serious interest in the Brighton and Hove Albion forward, who has been attracting significant attention across Europe following a stellar season.
Joao Pedro, who registered an impressive 17 goal contributions for Brighton, has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League since joining the club from Watford in 2020. His consistent displays and dynamic presence in the final third reportedly caught the eye of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who is eager to revamp his attacking options this summer.
The Brazilian’s versatility, technical skill, and impressive link-up play make him a valuable asset for any top side, and at just 23 years of age, he fits perfectly into Arsenal’s long-term project.
The club sees him as a potential solution to their ongoing issues in the centre-forward position. Kai Havertz has been deployed as a makeshift striker this season, with mixed results, while Gabriel Jesus’ frequent injury problems have left the team short of reliable options upfront.
Despite the interest from other elite European clubs, Arsenal were determined to lead the race for Joao Pedro’s signature. However, Brighton were initially reluctant to sanction a move for their prized asset, valuing him at around £67 million.
Given his contract at the Amex Stadium still had three years remaining, the Seagulls were in a strong negotiating position. Nevertheless, Arsenal appear to have convinced Brighton with a suitable offer to complete the deal.
Although the Gunners had previously been linked with more traditional centre-forwards like RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres, they see Joao Pedro’s ability to play across multiple attacking positions as a major advantage.
While the reported fee raised some concerns, given the possibility that Pedro might not immediately become a guaranteed starter, the club remains optimistic about his long-term potential and the depth he would add to Arteta’s frontline.
