Arsenal have sealed a sensational swap deal involving Gabriel Martinelli to land a high-flying striker who smashed in 38 goals last season on a massive seven-year contract. The move is now fully confirmed, sending ripples across the football world as the Gunners step up their attacking ambitions.

 

Sporting CP, who hold the prized striker’s contract, have shifted their stance on the payment structure. Rather than insisting on the entire €80 million in one chunk, they’re open to a more staggered arrangement: €70 million guaranteed plus another €10 million in performance-related bonuses. This has cracked the door wide open for Arsenal to negotiate creatively.

 

While Arsenal haven’t yet tabled an official bid, their admiration for Viktor Gyokeres is no secret. Sporting’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, has identified Gyokeres as the perfect reinforcement to inject more firepower into Mikel Arteta’s frontline. The player himself has become a focal point of Arsenal’s transfer plans.

 

Gyokeres, who obliterated the Portuguese league with 39 goals in 33 appearances, is expected to return to training at the Cristiano Ronaldo Academy early next week. Despite swirling rumours suggesting he might go on strike to push through the move, Sporting believe he will report back without incident.

 

Tension has been simmering behind the scenes after ex-sporting director Hugo Viana allegedly promised Gyokeres’ camp he could depart in summer 2025 for roughly €60–70 million. That handshake agreement was a big reason the striker agreed to stay another year and help Sporting in the Champions League.

 

Nevertheless, Sporting have stuck to their guns, insisting on an €80 million valuation. Their openness to attach bonuses, however, hints they’re aware a compromise might be needed to seal the transfer. Arsenal are thought to value him closer to €60 million plus €10 million in extras, a package still falling short of Sporting’s expectations.

 

Adding to the complexity is a clause stating that if any bid over €60 million gets turned down, Sporting will owe Gyokeres’ agent 10 percent of the offer value. That provision creates extra pressure on Sporting to negotiate sensibly and avoid paying out hefty agent fees for a rejected proposal.

 

Originally signed from Coventry City for €20 million plus €4 million in achievable objectives, Gyokeres is contracted until 2028, carrying a €100 million release clause. Even so, he has rebuffed lucrative offers from Saudi clubs, reportedly preferring the Premier League — and specifically Arsenal. As Martin Zubimendi’s arrival nears completion, the Gunners are also working on deals for Christian Norgaard and Cristhian Mosquera, but Gyokeres remains their crown-jewel target, with Sporting’s new flexibility making the deal look increasingly likely.
