Yet, despite his rising stock, manager Mikel Arteta has revealed a surprising hurdle in the teenager’s path — Dowman isn’t permitted in the senior dressing room, not because of talent but due to strict age-related safeguarding rules.
Dowman’s flair has stood out during Arsenal’s pre-season friendlies, especially when he won a penalty against Newcastle’s Joelinton — a moment that left fans buzzing. Unless an unlikely exception is granted, he’ll continue to be barred from the senior dressing room until he turns 18 at the end of 2027 — a long wait for a rising star.
These regulations, while restrictive, are part of a broader effort to protect youth players. Arsenal has learned to manage these peculiarities, thanks to its storied academy. The club has a strong history of developing young talent, and names like Saka, Smith Rowe, and Nwaneri prove they know how to handle future stars wisely and responsibly.
