Brighton’s defender, Pervis Estupiñán, is said to be angling for a fresh adventure in Manchester red, with journalist Sebastien Vidal spilling the tea that he’s formally nudged his agents to find a path out. The Ecuadorian left-back is reportedly eager to don the United shirt this summer, perhaps sensing the opportunity to revive his trajectory after a turbulent year.
Manchester United themselves are licking the wounds of a wretched campaign that saw them crater in 15th place in the Premier League and choke away a Europa League final, leaving them stripped of continental football. Naturally, the club is grasping for reinforcements, and while they’ve mostly obsessed over bolstering their attack—landing Matheus Cunha and eyeing Bryan Mbeumo—a left-sided option has begun to sparkle faintly on their radar.
United had already dipped into the January window to sign Patrick Dorgu from Lecce, a move intended to patch up their fragile wing-back situation. But even with Dorgu’s arrival, whispers remain that the club isn’t done fishing for upgrades in this area. Estupiñán, known for his energy up the flank, is one of those players whose name never fully fades from scouting dossiers.
So much so that, according to Vidal, the 27-year-old is downright determined. He has told his representatives to get busy hammering out an exit strategy to Brighton, hoping United will soon come knocking. Despite this ambition, the hard reality is that Old Trafford’s power brokers do not view him as a cornerstone target.
Indeed, the club’s transfer hierarchy is preoccupied elsewhere. They’ve already snapped up Paraguayan prospect Diego Leon to join the youth ranks. They also still have Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, and promising Harry Amass as options for that flank, forming a rather crowded competition that dilutes the urgency to spend big on another left-back.
At the moment, there is zero concrete evidence that United are formally advancing talks. Sure, Estupiñán might crave the move, but the club’s focus is split among shinier, more pressing priorities—particularly in central defence and midfield, where the likes of De Ligt and João Neves are hotter topics behind the scenes.
His injury history isn’t doing him any favours either. Estupiñán missed large swaths of last season with fitness setbacks, and with Brighton likely to demand north of £40 million, United’s recruitment team may not be inclined to roll the dice. This makes any potential switch more of a hypothetical curiosity than a developing saga.
Unless pre-season unravels with more injuries to Shaw or Malacia, the likelihood of Estupiñán swapping the south coast for Old Trafford remains slim. He’s admired, no doubt, but for now, he’s stuck in that awkward category of players United are monitoring rather than actually pursuing.
