Arsenal are reportedly exploring a move for highly rated 21-year-old full-back Lewis Hall, with a deal in the region of £65 million potentially on the table ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to reports, the North London club is among several Premier League sides interested in signing the Newcastle United defender when the market reopens. Arsenal have been closely monitoring Hall’s progress throughout the current campaign and are said to admire his development.
The Gunners already reinforced their defensive line last summer with the arrivals of Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié. Hincapié initially joined on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, but the club has since decided to activate his permanent transfer clause. He has quickly established himself as Arsenal’s first-choice left-back.
Despite this, Arsenal are still believed to be keen on adding Hall to their squad. However, prying him away from Newcastle would not be straightforward. The Magpies are expected to demand a fee between £65 million and £70 million, and manager Eddie Howe would reportedly prefer to offload other players rather than sanction Hall’s departure.
Since leaving Chelsea FC for Newcastle, Hall has made notable progress. He has featured 39 times this season, delivering solid defensive performances. His numbers highlight his effectiveness, averaging six duels and two tackles per match, alongside multiple recoveries and clearances.
While his defensive contributions have been impressive, Hall is still developing the attacking side of his game, suggesting there is further room for improvement. Even so, a move to Arsenal appears unlikely at this stage.
The club already has strong depth in the left-back position, with Hincapié joined by Riccardo Calafiori and promising youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly. Lewis-Skelly, despite showing great promise last season, has struggled for minutes due to the excellent form of Hincapié and Calafiori.
Although Hall could be tempted by the prospect of Champions League football, regular playing time would be a key factor in his decision. Arsenal may struggle to guarantee that, given their current options.
Instead of strengthening at left-back, Arsenal could look to reshape the position by allowing a departure. Lewis-Skelly, frustrated by limited opportunities, could be loaned out or even sold.
Meanwhile, the club’s priority may shift to the right-back position. With Ben White entering the final years of his contract, Arsenal could consider bringing in a younger replacement. Newcastle’s Tino Livramento has been linked as a more realistic target, though no formal approach has yet been made.
