Declan Rice remains confident that Arsenal are still in the Premier League title race following their 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.
The win marked Arsenal’s third consecutive league triumph and their fourth in all competitions, extending their unbeaten run to five matches. Goals from defenders Jurrien Timber and William Saliba, both stemming from corner kicks, secured the result in a dominant second-half display.
Reflecting on the performance, Rice, speaking to Amazon Prime, described the night as exceptional. “What a night,” he said. “Manchester United have a new manager, so we knew it would be a challenge. We stuck to our game plan and could’ve scored three or four.” Arsenal capitalized on set-pieces, a crucial area of their preparation.
Despite missing Gabriel Magalhães, a key figure in set-piece situations, the team maximized their 13 corner opportunities, with Rice delivering several precise deliveries.
“Set-pieces are a big focus for us, and it’s satisfying to see that work pay off,” Rice noted. “It’s all about repetition and perfecting the weight of the ball. Nico [Jover, Arsenal’s set-piece coach] will be thrilled with the result. I managed a few good balls today and could’ve had more assists.”
The victory moved Arsenal to within seven points of Liverpool, who currently lead the table, while Chelsea, tied on points with Arsenal, hold second place. Despite the points gap, Rice remains optimistic about the Gunners’ chances of challenging for the title.
“People are quick to write you off after a bad spell,” Rice remarked. “But we’ve shown resilience, stuck together, and turned things around. It’s still early in the season, and Liverpool have dropped points. They’re just seven ahead, so we’ll see what happens.”
With Arsenal’s recent momentum and confidence growing, the team appears determined to remain in contention as the season progresses.
