In October, SPORT reported that top European clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), have expressed interest in signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
Despite de Jong’s current commitment to Barcelona, PSG’s history of acquiring players from the Catalan side keeps them in contention as a possible destination for the Dutch playmaker next summer.
PSG has bolstered its midfield in recent seasons with players like Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz, and João Neves. Meanwhile, journalist Ferran Correas recently suggested that Barcelona might be open to selling de Jong during the next transfer window, raising speculation about his future at the club.
In a surprising development, Fichajes reported that Borussia Dortmund has emerged as a potential suitor for de Jong. The Bundesliga giants are reportedly looking to strengthen their squad with high-caliber players capable of boosting their competitiveness in both the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League.
Additionally, Liverpool has also been linked with de Jong, possibly considering him as a long-term midfield replacement. Barcelona’s ongoing financial challenges, coupled with de Jong’s substantial weekly wages of approximately £300,000, could make a transfer more feasible if a suitable offer arrives.
De Jong’s current contract with Barcelona runs until 2026, but he has yet to sign an extension. Given the club’s financial constraints, they might be compelled to entertain offers for the midfielder. While no official asking price has been revealed, Transfermarkt currently values de Jong at €60 million.
This valuation, combined with interest from top European clubs, suggests a competitive transfer race could unfold if Barcelona opts to cash in on the talented Dutch international.
