Barcelona’s recent struggles have drawn heavy criticism from fans and football analysts alike, though much of it appears warranted given the team’s lackluster performances. Their poor form has resulted in the loss of crucial points in the Spanish League, putting head coach Hansi Flick under pressure to find immediate solutions.
With just one victory in their last six league games, Barcelona has managed only five points from a possible 18, allowing rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid to close the gap at the top of the standings.
The latest setback came in a defeat against Leganes in the 18th round of La Liga, further deepening the crisis at the Catalan club. Fans, who had hoped for a decisive win to solidify Barcelona’s position, have been left disappointed.
The tension within the club is palpable, and club legend Carles Puyol did not hold back when expressing his frustrations during a recent interview with Radio Catalunya.
Puyol criticized several players and urged Hansi Flick to make bold decisions to avoid further setbacks. He singled out Jules Koundé, claiming the French defender has become a liability, costing the team valuable points this season.
According to Puyol, if Flick continues to start Koundé, he risks following in the footsteps of previous unsuccessful Barcelona coaches.
The former captain also questioned Robert Lewandowski’s continued presence in the starting lineup. Puyol argued that the Polish striker, now past his prime, is no longer the prolific forward Flick once coached at Bayern Munich. He pointed to Lewandowski’s lack of pressing ability and frequent missed chances as reasons for his declining effectiveness.
Puyol recommended giving young striker Pau Victor more opportunities, highlighting the youngster’s impressive pre-season performances, including a goal against Real Madrid in the Clasico held in the United States.
Additionally, Puyol stressed the urgent need for Barcelona to sign a new left-back. He criticized Alejandro Balde’s recent displays, describing them as some of the worst performances by a full-back in Barcelona’s history.
Puyol concluded by urging the club’s management to act swiftly in the transfer market to bolster the squad and improve the team’s chances of competing for the league title.
Barcelona’s current crisis demands immediate action, and Puyol’s candid remarks reflect the growing concerns among fans and club legends about the team’s direction under Flick’s leadership.
