Dani Olmo’s Uncertain Future at FC Barcelona
Dani Olmo’s situation at FC Barcelona has raised serious concerns within the club’s management. The player is reportedly frustrated with how events have unfolded since his transfer last summer.
Despite being promised a smooth registration process, he was unable to play in Barça’s first two LaLiga matches due to administrative complications. His eventual registration only became possible after Andrea Christensen sustained a long-term injury, freeing up a roster spot.
However, Olmo’s registration comes with a looming deadline. By January 1st, Barça must resolve its financial fair play issues or risk losing him without compensation. According to his contract, Olmo would be free to join another club if Barça fails to secure his place.
Club president Joan Laporta has consistently downplayed this possibility, assuring fans and management that a solution will be found. Yet, with the deadline fast approaching, the promised financial fixes—ranging from sponsorship deals to selling VIP seats—have yet to materialize.
Barça’s only remaining hope lies in a legal resolution. The club has taken the matter to the Commercial Court in Barcelona, arguing that Olmo has a right to work. A similar legal strategy previously succeeded with Gavi’s registration.
However, the outcome this time remains uncertain. The court’s decision, expected on December 27th, will determine whether Olmo can continue playing for the club.
This uncertain situation has reportedly affected Olmo’s performance on the field. His once-impressive form has dipped as speculation about his future grows. Insiders suggest that his mind is preoccupied with the unresolved issues, and he is not ruling out leaving Barça without compensation if the registration problem persists.
The situation has also disrupted team stability, causing tension within the squad managed by Hansi Flick. Meanwhile, European giants like Bayern Munich are closely monitoring Olmo’s status, and there are even suspicions that Real Madrid might attempt to sign him, reminiscent of the famous Figo transfer saga.
Additionally, four LaLiga clubs are allegedly pressuring the league to reject Barça’s registration attempts.
If Barcelona cannot resolve its €60 million financial gap within the next two weeks, Olmo could depart, leaving the club without its star summer signing despite Laporta’s repeated assurances of financial stability.
