Arsenal is exploring the possibility of signing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško as they reassess their options for bolstering their attacking line. Previously linked with Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres, the Gunners appear to be shifting focus toward a younger and more dynamic talent.
Šeško, a 21-year-old Slovenian international, was on Arsenal’s radar last summer but opted to renew his contract with Leipzig, partly due to concerns about playing a secondary role behind Kai Havertz. However, Arsenal remains keen on his signature, especially given his impressive form.
Šeško recorded 18 goals and two assists in his debut season at Leipzig and has continued that momentum with 10 goals and three assists this campaign. His age, potential, and versatile playing style make him an ideal fit for Arsenal’s high-intensity setup.
Other options, like Gyökeres and Isak, are losing favor for various reasons. Gyökeres, currently excelling at Sporting CP with an astonishing 70 goals and 20 assists in just 75 appearances, is considered a less favorable option due to his age—he will turn 27 in June.
Meanwhile, Isak, once a top target, is now viewed as a risky acquisition because of recurring injury issues that could be exacerbated by Arsenal’s demanding, high-pressing system.
Šeško’s attributes set him apart as a priority target. Known for his aerial ability, relentless pressing, and sharp finishing, he offers a superior shot conversion rate (20%) compared to Havertz (14%).
His capacity to score with both feet and generate power in his strikes further enhances his appeal. At 21, Šeško’s potential is viewed as much higher than many of his contemporaries, making him a long-term investment.
Valued at £41.5 million by Transfermarkt, Šeško’s actual transfer fee could be significantly higher, as Leipzig removed a £55 million release clause during his recent contract renewal. This strengthens Leipzig’s bargaining position, but Arsenal’s willingness to invest in such a promising talent underscores their ambition to solidify their attacking options.
While a summer move appears more likely, Šeško’s potential arrival could be transformative for Arsenal’s offensive strategy, aligning perfectly with Mikel Arteta’s vision for the team.
