Barcelona’s struggles in the league have deepened, as they have managed to secure only 5 points from their last 21 available. With just one victory in their previous seven matches, the Catalan giants faced yet another setback with a 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the 19th round of La Liga.
This loss allowed Atletico to climb to the top of the league table with 41 points, three points ahead of Barcelona, who have played an extra game.
The disappointing result has sparked frustration within the Barcelona camp, with Spanish midfielder Pedri reportedly the most disheartened by the team’s performance.
According to the Spanish publication El Nacional, Pedri delivered an outstanding individual performance against Atletico Madrid, often battling alone against the opposition. However, he felt betrayed by the lackluster efforts of his teammates, and the outcome of the match failed to reflect his exceptional display.
Pedri’s frustration is particularly directed at Polish striker Robert Lewandowski. The young midfielder believes Lewandowski’s recent inefficiency in front of goal, including several missed scoring opportunities, has been a key factor in Barcelona’s poor run.
Reports suggest that Pedri has voiced his concerns to coach Hansi Flick, urging him to drop Lewandowski from the starting lineup. Pedri has recommended giving young striker Pau Víctor a chance until the team can secure a more reliable forward to lead their attack.
Furthermore, Pedri has allegedly confided in his teammates Gavi and Raphinha, expressing his wish to see Lewandowski benched to help turn the team’s fortunes around. He sees this as a necessary step to salvage Barcelona’s season before it slips out of their control.
