Manchester United has invested approximately £110 million in recent transfer windows to bolster their attacking lineup by acquiring Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee. However, both players have struggled to live up to expectations. Højlund has shown glimpses of potential but has yet to find consistency in the Premier League, while Zirkzee has faced significant challenges adapting to the rigors of English football.
This lack of consistent attacking output has been a major contributor to United’s difficulties in finding the back of the net this season. Manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly determined to address this issue and has identified Paris Saint-Germain’s forward Randal Kolo Muani as a prime target for the January transfer window, according to TEAMtalk.
The French forward has been deemed surplus to requirements at PSG, with the club open to selling him in the upcoming window. However, securing his signature will not be an easy task, as Premier League rivals Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur have also expressed interest in the player. Currently earning £203,000 per week, Kolo Muani has had limited opportunities this season, making just two starts in all competitions and being excluded from PSG’s last two matchday squads.
Despite his recent struggles, Kolo Muani remains an enticing prospect. The 26-year-old demonstrated his capabilities in Ligue 1 last season, contributing six goals and five assists in 13 starts. His versatility as both a center-forward and winger, combined with his speed and creative ability, makes him an appealing option for United’s attack.
However, there are several concerns regarding Kolo Muani’s suitability for Manchester United. His limited playing time at PSG raises questions about his form and fitness, which could affect his ability to adapt quickly to the Premier League. Additionally, with multiple clubs vying for his services, his transfer fee and wage demands might escalate, making the deal a potentially expensive gamble. United also needs a reliable goal-scorer who can deliver immediate results, and Kolo Muani may not meet this criterion right away.
United’s current striking options also highlight the urgency of finding a dependable forward. Rasmus Højlund, who cost the club £72 million, has shown flashes of brilliance but remains a developing talent. Meanwhile, Joshua Zirkzee, a £36.5 million signing, has struggled to adapt, scoring only three goals in 18 league appearances.
Manager Ruben Amorim faces a crucial decision in evaluating whether Kolo Muani is the right fit for the team. While the Frenchman’s versatility and potential are undeniable, United might benefit more from targeting a proven goal-scorer with a consistent track record in top leagues. Alternatives like Victor Osimhen or other established forwards could better address United’s pressing needs.
Randal Kolo Muani undoubtedly possesses talent and promise, but his acquisition would come with significant risks. Given the intense pressure on Manchester United to deliver results, the club must carefully weigh its options and prioritize a forward capable of making an immediate impact. If Kolo Muani can seamlessly integrate into Amorim’s system and perform consistently, he could be a valuable addition. However, United’s focus should remain on securing a forward who aligns perfectly with the team’s goals and current requirements.
