Manchester United are set to part ways with two of their seasoned players, Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen, during the January transfer window. With only six months left on his contract, United are keen to sell him rather than risk losing him for free.
Similarly, Eriksen could exit the club next month following a string of underwhelming performances. Since Amorim’s arrival, the Danish midfielder has played only 94 minutes in the Premier League. His lackluster showing in the League Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur highlighted his struggles this season. Despite his proven quality—described as “world-class” by Brentford manager Thomas Frank—his limited contributions make his departure a possibility.
United’s willingness to offload Lindelof and Eriksen reflects a pragmatic approach to managing their financial and squad resources. Both players’ departures would not only free up around £7 million in wages but also generate modest transfer fees. These savings are expected to be reinvested in bolstering key areas of the squad.
The January window presents an opportunity for Amorim to address the team’s deficiencies. Improving the left wing, which has struggled creatively, will likely be a priority. Reinforcements in attack and midfield depth are also critical to support the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro.
For Lindelof and Eriksen, their futures may hinge on their willingness to accept pay cuts or United agreeing to pay-offs. Potential suitors such as Ajax, who considered re-signing Eriksen last summer, or Brentford, could offer them new opportunities to reignite their careers.
