Arsenal’s potential opponents for the Champions League round of 16 have now been determined, with the official draw set to take place on Friday.
The Gunners secured their place in the knockout phase after an impressive group stage performance, finishing third with a total of 19 points. This achievement ensures their participation in the next round, which is scheduled to begin next month.
Following the conclusion of the knockout round play-offs, Arsenal has identified two possible opponents: Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven. Feyenoord recently overcame AC Milan with a 2-1 aggregate victory, securing their spot in the round of 16.
While Feyenoord has struggled in their domestic league this season, currently sitting fourth in the Eredivisie, they have made a strong impression in European competitions. One of their most notable performances was a victory against Bayern Munich, demonstrating their ability to compete at the highest level.
A potential clash with Feyenoord could bring an interesting storyline for Arsenal fans. Former Gunners striker Robin van Persie, who had a controversial departure from the club, is expected to be named Feyenoord’s new head coach soon.
His possible return to the Emirates Stadium in a managerial role would undoubtedly stir emotions among supporters, creating an electrifying atmosphere during the fixture.
PSV Eindhoven is Arsenal’s other possible opponent in the round of 16. PSV secured their qualification by overturning a 2-1 first-leg deficit against Juventus, ultimately winning 3-1 in extra time during the second leg.
Arsenal and PSV have faced each other in European competitions over the past two seasons, with Arsenal winning both of their home matches. However, their performances away from home have been less convincing, as they recorded a draw and a loss in their recent visits to PSV.
Mikel Arteta’s side will play the first leg of the round of 16 away in the Netherlands on either March 4 or 5, before hosting the return fixture at the Emirates Stadium on March 11 or 12. While Arsenal is favored to progress past this stage, they must remain focused and deliver strong performances to avoid any surprises.
If they manage to advance to the quarter-finals, Arsenal could face even tougher opposition. Potential opponents in the last eight include European powerhouses such as Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, or Bayer Leverkusen.
The draw for the quarter-finals and subsequent rounds will also take place on Friday, determining Arsenal’s possible path toward Champions League glory.
