Barcelona is gearing up for a challenging La Liga clash against Real Sociedad at the Montjuïc Stadium in Catalonia as part of the 26th round of the Spanish League. Currently, the Catalan giants sit atop the league table with 54 points, tied with their fierce rivals Real Madrid, who trail only on goal difference.
Meanwhile, Barcelona continues to be active in the transfer market as club president Joan Laporta aims to reinforce the squad for the upcoming season. According to the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Laporta’s main priority is to secure the signing of AC Milan’s star forward, Rafael Leão.
The Portuguese attacker has established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting talents, known for his blistering pace, dribbling skills, and ability to change the course of a game.
His performances have caught the attention of several elite clubs, with Barcelona being among the most eager suitors.
However, acquiring Leão will not be easy, as AC Milan has set a hefty price tag of over 100 million euros for their prized asset. Given Barcelona’s financial constraints, the club is looking for creative ways to reduce the cost of the transfer. One proposal being considered is including Spanish winger Ferran Torres in a swap deal to lower the overall expense.
Ferran Torres, who arrived at Barcelona from Manchester City in January 2022 for approximately 55 million euros, has struggled to cement a regular starting spot. While he has shown glimpses of his quality, his role in the squad has diminished, particularly since the appointment of Hansi Flick as head coach.
As a result, Barcelona is open to parting ways with him if it helps facilitate the signing of Leão.
Milan previously showed interest in Torres during the last winter transfer window, making this swap deal a potential win-win situation. The Italian club is keen to bolster its attacking options, and Torres’ versatility, technical ability, and experience could fit well within their system.
Laporta believes that securing Leão would be a game-changer for Barcelona, giving the team a dynamic forward to complement young talents like Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.
However, the financial hurdle remains significant, as Milan is unwilling to accept anything below their valuation. Even with Ferran Torres included in the negotiations, Barcelona would still need to make a substantial financial commitment to finalize the deal.
