Arsenal is reportedly ready to spend £62 million to secure the services of a top-tier striker, choosing to focus their attention elsewhere instead of pursuing Benjamin Sesko or Alexander Isak.
This development was revealed by a respected journalist, who confirmed that the North London club is shifting its priorities in the transfer market.
According to well-known journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Arsenal is now prepared to meet the £62 million release clause of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. The 25-year-old forward, currently on the books at Napoli, had spent last season on loan at Turkish giants Galatasaray following unsuccessful moves to both Chelsea and a Saudi Arabian club the previous summer.
In a recent update, Sabuncuoglu stated that both Arsenal and Manchester United are actively chasing Osimhen’s signature. He explained that while Manchester United’s interest has been making headlines for several weeks, Arsenal’s involvement in the race has become increasingly serious as June approaches.
The journalist noted that Arsenal’s chances of signing the striker have fluctuated, but they remain very much in contention alongside other big clubs.
Sabuncuoglu also pointed out that while Galatasaray would like to secure Osimhen permanently, they currently lack the financial capability to trigger his release clause.
Meanwhile, both Arsenal and Manchester United are in a position to move forward if they decide to meet the financial demands. Paris Saint-Germain is also reportedly keeping tabs on the situation, making this a highly competitive race for the Nigerian international.
Adding to the complexity of the potential transfer, football journalist Fabrizio Romano recently mentioned on the GIVEMESPORT Market Madness podcast that Osimhen would likely expect any new club to match his current wages, which stand at a hefty £413,000 per week at Napoli.
This financial requirement could prove to be a stumbling block for Arsenal, whose wage structure has traditionally been more conservative.
With several player departures anticipated at the Emirates this summer and the need for a proven striker growing increasingly urgent, Arsenal appears to have conducted extensive research on Osimhen.
