Arsenal has successfully completed the signing of Martin Zubimendi after overcoming tough competition from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. The highly-rated midfielder, valued at £51 million, has agreed to personal terms with the North London club.
Arsenal is now prepared to trigger his €60 million release clause to finalize the deal. Zubimendi has enjoyed a solid season with Real Sociedad, making 44 appearances in total while contributing two goals and two assists across all competitions.
Earlier in the year, reports indicated that Arsenal had opened negotiations with Real Sociedad over a potential transfer for the Spanish midfielder. However, both Real Madrid and Barcelona soon expressed their interest, attempting to hijack the deal.
Despite the late advances from the two La Liga powerhouses, Arsenal has managed to maintain their position as frontrunners and is now on the verge of officially securing Zubimendi’s signature, with only an official announcement remaining.
In other transfer developments, Liverpool and Real Madrid are currently in discussions over a possible transfer for right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. The English defender’s contract with Liverpool is set to expire on June 30, prompting Real Madrid to accelerate their efforts to sign him before the Club World Cup begins on June 15.
Financial sources estimate that the deal could be completed for a fee in the region of £1 million. Alexander-Arnold, who made his senior debut for Liverpool in 2016, has publicly confirmed his intention to leave the club at the end of the season.
Adding to the summer’s transfer drama, Liverpool has reportedly made a bold attempt to sign Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.
The Belgian midfielder, whose contract with City is due to expire this summer, has agreed to personal terms with Liverpool, despite notable interest from Serie A side Napoli. De Bruyne had previously announced his decision to leave Manchester City last month, describing his time at the Etihad Stadium as “the best chapter” of his professional career. If the move is finalized, it would mark one of the most shocking and high-profile transfers of the summer window, especially given the rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester City in recent Premier League seasons.
