BREAKING NEWS: “His decision is final and there’s nothing we can do to change it. But I’ll never forgive Arsenal for persuading him — losing a player of his calibre at such a crucial point in the season is a huge blow for us,” an emotional Bayern Munich president said in tears, as yet another Bayern star has agreed to join Arsenal on a free transfer this summer.

Bayern Munich is facing a difficult situation as one of their star players, Leroy Sané, has turned down the club’s latest contract offer. The 29-year-old German winger, whose current deal runs out this June, had a solid 2024–25 season despite a slow start.

Sané made just 17 league starts under Vincent Kompany but finished the campaign with 11 Bundesliga goals — his best scoring season in the league so far.

Many believed Sané’s strong second half of the season would lead to a contract extension with Bayern, but negotiations have stalled. Just before Bayern’s final league game against Hoffenheim, reports emerged that talks had broken down, and club director Max Eberl has now confirmed this. Speaking to Sky Sport Germany, Eberl revealed that Sané officially rejected their latest offer. “He told us today that he won’t accept our offer in its current form,” Eberl admitted.

The club had reportedly offered Sané a fixed salary of €10 million per year, with the possibility of an extra €5.5 million in bonuses, in a deal running until 2028. Despite this, Eberl insists there’s no hostility between the two parties.

He expressed his hope that Sané might still decide to stay but acknowledged the uncertainty ahead. “You can sense he wants to stay — at least that’s how it feels to me. Let’s see what happens in the next few days,” he added.

Though Eberl had earlier claimed there would be no further talks with Sané’s representatives, it appears Bayern haven’t completely given up. Sané himself has shown interest in remaining at the club, though he’s undoubtedly aware of the attention he’d attract on the free-agent market if he chooses to leave.

Among the clubs monitoring Sané’s situation is Arsenal. The Premier League side is keen to add to their attacking options this summer, and manager Mikel Arteta, who previously worked with Sané during his time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, is eager to bring him to North London.

Arteta witnessed Sané’s talents firsthand once again during last season’s Champions League quarterfinals. While Sané may no longer be the electric winger he was at his peak with City, his recent form suggests he still has plenty to offer, which is why Bayern remains eager to keep him despite the current contract impasse.
