After enduring a tough and disappointing spell with Barcelona, one of the club’s sidelined players has officially announced his decision to leave. The player, unable to secure a consistent spot in the starting lineup, has opted to pursue a new challenge in hopes of reviving his career elsewhere.
Barcelona, meanwhile, is reportedly preparing for significant changes within its squad structure — which could involve extending contracts for some current players, letting others go, and making fresh signings to strengthen the team.
According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, agent Jorge Mendes recently held discussions concerning the future of Barcelona forward Ansu Fati. It was revealed that Fati has made up his mind about departing the club and has even chosen his next destination.
The young Spanish winger is reportedly keen on a move to French side AS Monaco, a club that has shown serious interest in bringing him on board. Monaco’s management has expressed to Mendes that signing Fati is a priority for them ahead of the upcoming season.
Mundo Deportivo noted that Fati is particularly attracted to Monaco because of the team’s dynamic, attack-minded style of play, which revolves around maintaining possession and pressing forward aggressively — a system that suits his natural abilities.
Additionally, Monaco’s competitiveness in European competitions, including the UEFA Champions League, is another factor that influenced his decision. The French club’s strong performances against Barcelona last season, notably claiming victories both in the Joan Gamper Trophy and during their Champions League encounters, further caught Fati’s attention.
The decision to leave was not made lightly, but it followed a period in which Fati found himself completely out of favor with Barcelona’s head coach Hansi Flick. Despite the team struggling at times with injuries and player absences, Flick consistently overlooked Fati, rarely giving him opportunities to feature in matches.
This lack of trust from the manager ultimately led the 22-year-old to seek a new environment where he could regain confidence, enjoy more playing time, and rebuild his reputation.
During the current season, Fati made just 11 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions, failing to register either a goal or an assist. This limited involvement only confirmed that a fresh start was necessary for the young attacker, who once carried the hopes of Barcelona’s future.
