Manchester United are inching closer to finalizing their last major transfer for the summer window, with an £80 million-rated Dutch striker reportedly agreeing to a five-year deal. But while this front-page news has thrilled Old Trafford faithful, the Red Devils aren’t done battling. In fact, they’re locking horns with Newcastle United over the services of RB Leipzig’s rising Slovenian forward, Benjamin Šeško.
Reports from credible media sources reveal that Newcastle United have already thrown their hat in the ring with a hefty proposal for Šeško, submitting a €75 million bid—with an extra €5 million in add-ons. That bid, however, didn’t quite pass the sniff test in Leipzig. It was turned down, not due to the price, but because the Bundesliga side wasn’t pleased with the proposed payment structure.
Leipzig, ever shrewd in their dealings, made it crystal clear: if you want the boy, you cough up €85 million minimum—€75m guaranteed plus €10m in add-ons—and you better sweeten the deal with a sell-on clause. That’s the new gold standard they’ve set, and neither club’s cracked the code just yet. Still, the Red Devils are reportedly ready to match or better the rejected offer from Newcastle, showing that this is far from over.
Timing, as always in football, is everything. The new Premier League season kicks off in less than two weeks, and both Man United and Newcastle are desperate to reinforce their attacking options. Whoever lands him isn’t just buying a player—they’re buying a future mainstay, a striker with longevity and room to grow.
However, while Newcastle have pushed further ahead in terms of bid negotiations, whispers from inside sources say Šeško is leaning toward Manchester United. Old Trafford still holds a shine for young players chasing legacy and limelight. If the structure of the offer aligns with what Leipzig wants, Šeško could very well be wearing red, not black and white.
