Eberechi Eze once again proved that he tends to deliver his most spectacular performances when there is a compelling storyline surrounding the occasion. The attacking midfielder struck twice to inspire Arsenal to a commanding 4–1 away victory over Tottenham Hotspur, further strengthening the league leaders’ title push. His goals — the fourth and fifth he has scored against Spurs — underlined his knack for stepping up in high-emotion moments.
Despite the emphatic scoreline, the match was far from straightforward for Arsenal. As has often been the case recently, they made life difficult for themselves. Shortly after Eze opened the scoring, Declan Rice made a costly mistake, attempting to dribble out of danger near his own penalty area.
Randal Kolo Muani dispossessed him and quickly punished the error, finishing past David Raya to equalize. Remarkably, it was Tottenham’s only touch inside Arsenal’s box during the first half and Kolo Muani’s first league goal since the previous season.
The incident reflected a worrying pattern for Arsenal, who have conceded several goals this season due to defensive errors. Even so, the players responded well after halftime, showing resilience rather than allowing the setback to disrupt their momentum.
Their recovery was swift. Within minutes of the restart, Viktor Gyökeres restored Arsenal’s lead with a sharp finish, continuing his strong run of form. Eze then sealed the contest with his second goal, capitalizing on a fortunate deflection that fell perfectly into his path before celebrating with a playful spin on the ground.
Interestingly, most of Eze’s league goals this season have come against Tottenham, a club that had attempted to sign him before Arsenal secured his transfer. Although his overall goal tally has been modest, his ability to produce decisive contributions in narrative-heavy matches has made him an influential figure.
The victory was an important statement from Arsenal during a shaky period, boosting confidence in their title ambitions. While some players appeared below their usual standards, the team’s attacking quality ultimately proved decisive. Tottenham, meanwhile, continued to struggle, remaining close to the relegation zone and facing a difficult battle to climb the table.
