Arsenal seems to have a clear pathway towards potentially securing the services of Viktor Gyokeres, following recent developments surrounding Chelsea’s interest in the striker.
The Sporting CP forward has enjoyed a stellar debut season in Portugal, showcasing impressive form with 36 goals and 15 assists in 42 appearances across various competitions at the age of 25.
His exceptional performance has garnered attention from clubs across Europe, although his €100 million release clause acts as a deterrent for many potential suitors. Sporting might even engage in discussions with Gyokeres regarding a new contract to further increase this release clause.
In March, Footballwave revealed exclusively that Arsenal had identified Gyokeres as their top target for the upcoming summer transfer window. Despite interest from Manchester United, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain, recent developments suggest that these clubs are exploring alternative options.
Manchester United seems keen on Ivan Toney, while Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly eyeing Victor Osimhen as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe. Chelsea has also shifted its focus to Osimhen, indicating a diminished interest in Gyokeres.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea has cooled their pursuit of Gyokeres and does not intend to trigger his release clause in the upcoming transfer window.
Jacobs noted that despite previous reports, Chelsea did not submit a bid for Gyokeres in January, possibly due to Sporting’s high valuation.
With Chelsea stepping back, Arsenal emerges as the frontrunner for Gyokeres. Speculation suggests that Arsenal would be willing to meet the striker’s release clause, especially if they can offload some of their homegrown talent.
